CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Medium Risk Operator Competence for Single Waste Stream Open Inert Landfill
About this regulated qualification
This qualification is part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. It provides technically competent managers (TCMs) with the knowledge and skills to ensure that single-waste-stream open-inert landfill sites comply with relevant regulations.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating competence in:
- Managing health and safety
- Minimising environmental impact
- Handling the movement, sorting, and storage of single waste streams
- Receiving inert waste on a single waste stream site
- Managing inert waste disposal operations on a single waste stream site
In addition to the mandatory units, learners can choose one of three optional units to tailor their qualification to specific operational needs:
- Restore and prepare landfill sites for aftercare
- Develop restoration and aftercare schemes for inert landfill sites
- Prepare landfill sites for the acceptance of inert waste
This structure ensures that learners gain both core technical competence and specialist knowledge, supporting compliance and best practice.
