CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Medium Risk Operator Competence for Open Inert Landfill
About this regulated qualification
This qualification is part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. It provides technically competent managers (TCMs) with the knowledge and skills to ensure open inert landfill sites comply with relevant regulations.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating competence in:
- Managing health and safety
- Minimising environmental impact
- Handling the movement, sorting, and storage of waste
- Receiving inert waste
- Managing disposal operations
In addition to the mandatory units, learners can choose one of three optional units to tailor their qualification to specific operational needs:
- Restore and prepare landfill sites for aftercare
- Develop restoration and aftercare schemes for inert landfill sites
- Prepare landfill sites for the acceptance of inert waste
This structure ensures that learners gain both core technical competence and specialist knowledge, supporting compliance and best practice within the landfill sector.
