About this regulated qualification
This comprehensive qualification is part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. It provides technically competent managers (TCMs) with the knowledge and skills to ensure hazardous waste thermal treatment facilities comply with relevant regulations.
Assessment is conducted in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence. The qualification covers:
- Managing health and safety
- Minimising environmental impact
- Handling the movement, sorting and storage of waste
- Controlling work activities
- Implementing improvements to operations
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Overseeing procedural compliance
- Responding to emergencies
- Receiving hazardous waste
- Managing regulatory inspections
There are then two pathways to choose from:
- The hazardous waste pathway
- The hazardous clinical waste pathway
