About this regulated qualification
This qualification is part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. It provides technically competent managers (TCMs) with the knowledge and skills to ensure hazardous waste treatment facilities comply with relevant regulations.
Assessment is conducted in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating competence in:
- Managing health and safety
- Minimising environmental impact
- Handling the movement, sorting and storage of waste
- Controlling waste activities
- Implementing improvements to operations
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Overseeing procedural compliance
- Responding to emergencies
- Receiving hazardous waste
- Managing transfer and disposal from hazardous waste treatment and recovery operations
- Managing hazardous waste treatment operations and managing regulatory inspections
