CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 High Risk Operator Competence for Managing Hazardous Open Landfill
About this regulated qualification
This qualification is part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. It provides technically competent managers (TCMs) with the knowledge and skills to ensure that hazardous open landfills comply with relevant regulations.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace through a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating competence in:
- Managing health and safety
- Minimising environmental impact
- Leadership and management
- Handling movement, sorting and storage of waste
- Improving waste management operations
- Controlling maintenance and other engineering operations
- Procedural compliance
- Responding to emergencies
- Managing the reception of hazardous waste
- Managing disposal operations
- Managing an inspection visit at your site from regulatory bodies
In addition to the mandatory units, learners can choose one of two optional pathways to tailor their qualification to specific operational needs:
- Hazardous waste landfill
- Hazardous waste landfill single stream
This structure ensures that learners gain both core technical competence and specialist knowledge, supporting compliance and best practice.
