About this regulated qualification

Gain the critical skills to manage resources and waste management activities effectively and deliver reliable services to the highest standard.

To gain this qualification, learners must complete eight units: all six mandatory units, covering areas such as health and safety, environmental impact, leadership, procedural compliance, stakeholder engagement, and learning and development, plus two units from an optional group. The optional units allow learners to tailor the qualification to their role, spanning work planning, budget management, emergency response, recruitment, contract management, and the technical aspects of treatment, transfer, and disposal operations.

This qualification serves two distinct groups. For supervisors and team leaders, it is an ideal stepping stone for developing the foundational knowledge and skills to move into management roles in the future, including those for technically competent managers (TCMs). For existing TCMs, it offers a recognised route to broaden and formalise their management capabilities beyond technical competence.

Please note: this qualification is not part of the CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme. However, once achieved, some units can be used as exemptions (evidence of prior learning) towards a CIWM (WAMITAB) Operator Competence Scheme qualification.
