To apply for Technical membership, you must meet the qualification and experience requirements for one of the two routes below.

| A | None | Completion of the CIWM Operational Manager Programme; OR a CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 or higher technical qualification; OR a Level 4 or higher technical qualification in field of expertise, recognised by CIWM; OR a degree-level qualification in your field of expertise |
| B | 2 years | Completion of a Waste and Resource Operative apprenticeship; OR a relevant Technical Apprenticeship; OR a relevant non-degree level qualification |
To become a Technical member, you need to complete an online application and submit the following:
Up-to-date CV
Your CV will be used to check that you meet the entry criteria. You should include information about each position you have held, including the level and scope of work involved, and the level of responsibility, such as supervising staff or controlling finances.
Your qualification, certificate or learner ID
If your qualification was obtained via CIWM, you’ll need to upload a copy of your qualification certificate when completing the relevant section of the application form.
The 2026 subscription fee is £177, which is pro rated for those joining mid-year.
Spread the cost of your membership when you pay by Direct Debit:
- £44.25 (quarterly Direct Debit)
- £14.75 (monthly Direct Debit)
Technical membership supports your development and can lead to Chartered status as your experience grows.
