CIWM responds to the British Retail Consortium report on EPR costs

CIWM has issued a statement in response to the British Retail Consortium's report launched this week on the implications of the EPR scheme regarding costs for consumers.

Dan Cooke, CIWM's Director of Policy, Communications and External Affairs, stated:

"The BRC report confirms the financial implications of the EPR scheme, noting the likelihood of costs being transferred to consumers. At CIWM, we recognise that effective policy implementation requires addressing these economic factors. EPR is a game-changing opportunity to drive the transition towards a circular economy by aligning financial incentives with good environmental practice, and implements the 'polluter pays' principle to help secure the necessary investment to transform UK recycling infrastructure. It is an important step for establishing our sector as the bedrock of the circular economy. To ensure its success, there must be a clear and transparent commitment that all collected EPR fees will be directed toward delivering the improved infrastructure and consistent waste management services that enable people, places, communities, and economies to thrive. Transparency is essential in achieving the scheme's full potential and ultimately helping to move the world beyond waste."
