CIWM Announces Changes to its Trustee Board
CIWM has today announced changes to its Board of Trustees, with Dr Adam Read MBE taking over as Chair of the CIWM Board of Trustees, following the conclusion of Liz Parkes MBE’s term as Chair.
Both Adam and Liz have a long history of supporting CIWM in senior volunteer roles. Both were appointed to the current Board in 2019 following an update to CIWM's governance structures, with Adam previously serving on the former Board and Liz having served on the CIWM Enterprises Board.
Adam, who served as CIWM’s 105th President, is Chief Sustainability and External Affairs Officer at SUEZ , where he is responsible for government engagement, communications, and education. With over 20 years in the resources sector as a local authority recycling officer, academic, and lecturer, he brings extensive experience in environmental policy, circular economy strategy, and sector skills development. In his new role as Chair, he will oversee CIWM's governance structure and strategic direction, supporting the institution's purpose to move the world beyond waste.
Liz Parkes was appointed Chair of the Board in July 2022. In this role, Liz has built a more resilient Institution that is well positioned for the future, alongside providing strong governance leadership to advance CIWM’s Net Zero goals and drive equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. Following her stepping down as Chair, Liz will take on the role of CIWM President next year.
Dr Adam Read, incoming CIWM Board Chair, commented: "It is an honour to step into the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees. CIWM plays a crucial role in supporting our sector through rapid change, and I am excited to work with the Board and our members as we continue to champion green skills and deliver our purpose to move the world beyond waste. I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Liz for her remarkable dedication, leadership, and guidance during her time as Chair, and for leaving such a strong foundation for us to build on as she prepares to step into the role of CIWM President next year."
The majority of CIWM's Trustees are appointed based on a skills matrix and selection panel, with presidential roles elected by the Members' Council and Fellows.
