CIWM Responds to Reports of Labour U-Tun on Green Investment Plan

We are disappointed by reports that Labour is to U-turn on its green investment plan. This follows an announcement earlier in the year that the Conservatives are to reverse several of their key climate change policies.

These projects would have significantly contributed to the growth of the green economy, supporting job creation and technical innovation whilst also helping to protect our planet for future generations and moving to a world beyond waste. We recognise that the current economic backdrop makes this investment challenging, but but it is vital if the UK is to meet its net zero by 2050 target.

This point is reinforced by today’s other news that global warming has exceed 1.5C for an entire year for the first time. This should act as a stark reminder for us all. It is time for investment in green policies and technologies to be seen as a must have and not as a nice to have.
