Industry letter to Defra resource minister acknowledges Government support on tackling waste crime

20th November 2015

CIWM and the other industry in the Trade Association Group (TAG) have written to Rory Stewart OBE MP, the Defra Minister for Resource and Environmental Management, to commend the Government's continued support to the sector on tackling waste crime.

The joint letter from the six bodies (ADBA, CIWM, ESA, ICE, REA, and Resource Association) says:
"The need for the strongest possible action to curb the worrying growth in waste crime was a top priority issue for TAG when it was first convened in 2013 and we have been encouraged by the level of ministerial support and additional funding that has been made available."

In particular, the letter acknowledges the enhanced enforcement powers that are currently being put in place for regulators in England and Wales and the forthcoming Duty of Care campaign, funded through the Environment Agency and co-ordinated by the Environmental Services Association.
