The following programme has been designed in line with the Health Technical Memorandum 07-01: Safe and sustainable management of healthcare waste, and the NHS clinical waste strategy.
The foundations of courses are based on CIWM expertise in the waste and resource sector and are all contextualised to meet the needs of the above reports ensuring that the course programme assists in the drive to develop in-house workforce knowledge and capability for the improvement of the management of wastes within the NHS.
The programme will cover 10 courses.

June – Duty of Care

The pre-course questionnaire is required by all delegates. It needs to be completed by all delegates 7 days before the course start date.

28^th May – Pre-course questionnaire must be completed and sent to the tutor.

Module 1: 5^th June – 10:00 – 13:00 – Duty of Care – Virtual Zoom training session

Module 2: 6^th June – 10:00 – 13:00 – Duty of Care – Virtual Zoom training session

July – Waste Legislation Essentials

3 hours of E-learning must be completed 1 week before the virtual lesson.
26^th June – E-Learning must be completed.

Module 1: 3^rd July – 09:00 – 12:00 – ‘Waste Legislation Essentials’ – Virtual Zoom training session

 
August – Waste Auditing

30 minutes of homework given at the end of session 1 that must be completed before session 2. 30 minutes at the end of session, has been added for this.  Homework does not need to be submitted to the tutor.

Module 1: 1^st August – 09:30 – 12:30 – ‘Waste Auditing’ – Virtual Zoom training session

30 minutes will be added to the end of the session for the homework.

12:30 – 1:00 – Homework time

Module 2: 2^nd August – 09:30 – 12:30 – ‘Waste Auditing’ – Virtual Zoom training session

 
September – Hazardous Waste

Pre-course work is required before the start of virtual lessons Modules 1&2. 40 minutes of homework is required before Module 3. 

2 hours of pre-course work required no submission to the tutor.

Module 1 & 2: 3^rd September – 09:00 – 15:30 (lunch 12:00 – 13:00)

40 minutes of homework is required before module 3 starts.

Module 3: 4^th September – 14:00 – 16:30

 
October – Contract Management 

Module 1:  1^st October– 09:30 – 13:30 – Contract Management – Virtual Zoom training session

Module 2: 2^nd October – 09:30 – 13:30 – Contract Management – Virtual Zoom training session

 
November – Health & Safety

Module 1: 4^th November – 09:30 – 12:30 – Health & Safety – Virtual Zoom training session

Module 2: 5^th November – 09:30 – 12:30 – Health & Safety – Virtual Zoom training session

December – Sustainability & Circular

Module 1: 2^nd December – 09:00 – 17:00 – 1 hour for lunch and 5-minute break once an hour. – Virtual Zoom training session

 
January – Waste Management Plans

30 minutes of homework at the end of Module 1 that must be completed before Module 2. 

Module 1: 9^th January 2025 – 09:30 – 12:30 – Virtual Zoom training session

Homework: 9^th January 2025 – 12:30 – 13:00

Module 2: 10^th January 2025 – 09:30 – 12:30 – Virtual Zoom training session

Waste Management Plans2 hours of E-learning required. Added at the end of Waste Management Plans part 2 after a 1-hour lunch break. 

10^th January 2025 – 13:00 – 15:00 (allows for 1 hour’s lunch break)

 
Permitting on-demand- E-Learning (optional)

3-4 hours E-learning

This can be carried out at any point during the programme.
