Introduction to the Management of Wastes- Virtual Training

This comprehensive virtual training programme will give you an understanding of the broad scope of the waste and resources management sector and experience to help you do your job. This programme attracts delegates from a wide range of organisations creating the perfect opportunity to pick up ideas and best practice examples from both tutors and practitioners working in a variety of settings.

What's in it for me?
By the end of this programme participants will be able to:
apply your understanding of resource and waste management systems, waste composition, industry best practice and national waste strategies in your day-today work
contribute to your organisation’s compliance with waste legislation including Duty of Care responsibilities and hazardous waste management
compare the options available for the prevention, recovery, reuse, treatment and disposal of waste and resources throughout the whole management system
appreciate the role of waste and resource

Who should participate?
This virtual training programme is for anyone new to the waste and resources sector, those currently dealing with their organisation’s waste and resources, and anyone wishing to develop or change their career. It is particularly relevant to those in the local authority and private sector and those who need to understand UK waste

How does the virtual training programme work?
The programme is delivered over a two-week period involving a blend of live virtual sessions with the tutors delivered at set times along with some recorded sessions/ activities which can be worked around your other commitments (self-managed activities). There will be several days between the live sessions to allow plenty of time to complete these activities. The self-managed activities should take no more than a couple of hours each week, they can be accessed at any time and do not have to be completed all in one go.

All information including schedule, links to live tutor sessions using zoom, activities and materials are provided through CIWM Learn.  Login details will be sent to you as part of the joining instructions.  You will need to access CIWM Learn from a computer/ laptop. To get the best experience from the live sessions using zoom it is better if you are able to access it from the desktop version rather than the browser or a tablet.

The live tutor led sessions will be interactive with discussions, interactive activities, opportunity to ask questions and guidance on requirements for other modules.  You will also get access to a programme specific ‘room’ in CIWM Connect so you can talk to each other and ask questions of the CIWM/ Tutors at any time during the programme.
