Waste Duty of Care applies to everyone who handles wastes, whether as a producer, carrier or waste management organisation. This virtual training programme explores these obligations and how to comply with the Duty of Care Code of Practice.
The programme gives a good opportunity to share a range of ideas and best practice examples from both tutors and others working in a variety of settings.
What's in it for me?
By the end of this programme participants will be able to:
• Understand the key reasons why we have the Duty of Care requirements
• Understand why the producer plays a fundamental role
• Be aware of the current legislative requirements and what this means in practice
• Appreciate how your Duty of care obligations relate to other controls
• Know how to complete a Waste transfer/ information note
• Be familiar with various sources of information including public registers and understand the role of auditing in helping to comply with your obligations
Who should participate?
This virtual training programme is for anyone currently dealing with their organisation’s waste and resources and anyone involved in the transport, handling, control. treatment or disposal of waste. If you need to understand your duty of care responsibilities or ensure the organisation is compliant with them.
How does the virtual training programme work?
The programme is delivered over a two-week period involving a blend of live virtual sessions with the tutors delivered at set times along with some recorded sessions/ activities which can be worked around your other commitments (self-managed activities). There will be several days between the live sessions to allow plenty of time to complete these activities. The self-managed activities should take no more than a couple of hours each week, they can be accessed at any time and do not have to be completed all in one go.
All information including schedule, links to live tutor sessions using zoom, activities and materials are provided through CIWM Learn. Login details will be sent to you as part of the joining instructions. You will need to access CIWM Learn from a computer/ laptop. To get the best experience from the live sessions using zoom it is better if you can access it from the desktop version rather than the browser or a tablet.
The live tutor led sessions will be interactive with discussions, interactive activities, opportunity to ask questions and guidance on requirements for other modules. You will also get access to a programme specific ‘room’ in CIWM Connect so you can talk to each other and ask questions of the CIWM/ Tutors at any time during the programme.
