About this training
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to the belief (and increasing societal demands) that businesses have an obligation to society beyond their commitments to their stockholders or investors. In addition to generating profits, businesses are expected to have some responsibility to stakeholders such as employees, customers, communities, and the environment. CSR includes corporations being economically responsible, improving labour practices, embracing fair trade, mitigating environmental damage, giving back to the community, and increasing employee satisfaction. But what does this mean in practice?

The CSR Strategy course is intended to give more than a simple introduction to the principles of CSR. Instead, this training session is designed to equip participants with knowledge of CSR as a strategic tool for business and community success, positioning CSR within the local, national, and international contexts of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals; articulating the impact of CSR through the supply and value chains; clarifying the process for creating a company CSR strategy; and defining the leadership characteristics which are necessary for realising the objectives of the strategy.

What will I learn on the course?

  • The origins of CSR and how it has emerged as a core component of business development and decision-making;
  • The five central components of CSR and how they relate to business leadership, management, and development;
  • How CSR can be used as a strategic tool for business planning and community engagement and impact;
  • Recognise the business benefits of addressing CSR;
  • The development and focus of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how that can be used to underpin CSR;
  • The role that businesses can play in supporting the realisation of the Goals;
  • How to influence the supply and value chains and address CSR indirectly via supply chain management;
  • How to create, implement, and evaluate a company CSR strategy; and
  • The leadership competencies and capabilities required to deliver a CSR strategy.

Who is it for?

  • Private, public, and third sector organisations;
  • Business owners;
  • Team leaders or managers;
  • Boards of Directors or Trustees;
  • Aspiring entrepreneurs;
  • Consulting professionals;
  • Community leaders; and
  • Purpose-driven individuals.
