Is Technician membership right for me?

Technician membership is perfect for you if have any of the following or equivalent qualifications: a National Certificate, a full Wastes Management COTC at NVQ level 3 awarded by WAMITAB, City and Guilds or SQA, a relevant VRQ at level 3 or an equivalent qualification and have at least one year of relevant continuous experience in wastes management.

What are the benefits of Technician membership?

Technician members receive many of the benefits that other CIWM members receive. A full list of benefits can be found here. In addition, Technician members can use the designatory letter TechMCIWM, which are instantly recognisable as a connection to CIWM, demonstrating passion and commitment to the wastes management industry. This will help demonstrate to a potential employer that you are committed to a career in the waste and resources profession.

What commitments do I have as a Technician member?

As a Technician member you are committing to professional standards within the wastes management industry. Technician members are encouraged to get involved in CIWM activities and make the most of your membership. The time committed is up to you! You are encouraged to attend regional CIWM Centre meetings and you can also get involved in Special Interest Groups and the New Members Network.

What’s my next step after Technician membership?

As you progress your career you could look to transfer to another grade of professional membership. This demonstrates further experience and can be achieved on completion of more advanced academic or vocational qualifications.

What is the cost of Technician membership?

The annual cost for Technician Membership is £122.

How do I join?

It’s simple. Create an account on this website. Then click on the Application for Professional Membership link and start completing the form. You can save the form at anytime and return to it from your online account, via the “Applications” tab. You will need to upload copies of any relevant certificates and a copy of your CV. You will also need to provide to referees to support your application.

What happens next?

As soon as we have your application and it has been approved, we will send you an invoice for your fees. When your fees are paid, you will be sent a Welcome email and you can start using your CIWM membership benefits.
