CIWM strengthens leadership with key Trustee appointments

CIWM has announced key appointments to its Board of Trustees, taking place on 19 June 2025 following the Presidential Inauguration. These changes further strengthen the strategic direction and governance of CIWM, demonstrating our commitment to strong leadership and continued progress within the resources and waste sector.

Following a rigorous assessment process, CIWM is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Hulland as a new Trustee. As Chief Risk & Assurance Officer for Veolia in Northern Europe and a board member of Veolia Northern Europe Executive Committee (ExCo), Richard brings extensive experience to CIWM. His 3-period term on the Trustee Board will run until the Presidential Inauguration 2028.

In addition, we are pleased to confirm the re-appointment of Trevor Nicoll as a Trustee. Trevor's continued dedication has been instrumental to CIWM’s leadership, and his re-appointment for a 3-period term until 2028 ensures continuity and sustained guidance for the organisation.

We’re also pleased to announce that John Kutner has been re-appointed as Honorary Treasurer. John's diligent oversight and strategic financial acumen are critical to CIWM's stability and growth. His 3-period term on the Trustee Board will also continue until the Presidential Inauguration 2028.

Each year, CIWM invites applications from its members for Trustee positions. Applications undergo a thorough assessment by a selection panel, which includes CIWM members and an independent non-member, against a comprehensive skills matrix to ensure the Board possesses the diverse expertise required.

Sarah Poulter, CEO at CIWM, comments: "Our Board of Trustees are fundamental to the effective running of CIWM, and we are delighted to welcome Richard and welcome back Trevor and John for a further term. Their collective expertise and commitment will be highly valuable in helping us to ensure robust governance and deliver our purpose to move the world beyond waste."

The selection committee was pleased with the calibre of applications received this year and encourages members from all areas of the sector to consider applying in future cycles to ensure our Trustees continue to reflect the diversity of CIWM’s membership. The Board also invites those who have not been successful in their Trustee applications to get involved with CIWM in other ways.

CIWM's Trustees are selected by skill set and are at the head of CIWM's governance structure.
