CIWM appoints Duncan Simpson and reappoints Liz Parkes to Board of Trustees
CIWM has today (18 June) announced the appointment of Duncan Simpson to its Board of Trustees, as well as the reappointment of Liz Parkes for a second term.
Duncan Simpson has almost 30 years’ experience in the resources and waste management industry, having worked in both the public and private sector. He is currently an Owner Director of Duncan Simpson Associates, a consultancy business which he founded in May 2020. Prior to this, Duncan worked for Valpak in the field of extended producer responsibility for 22 years. He is a CIWM Fellow and CIWM Scotland Centre Councillor.
Duncan Simpson said: “I am very flattered to have been selected to become a CIWM Trustee. CIWM and its members have been a constant companion of mine throughout my career. It is an important time for the Institution, and I hope to be able to support the excellent work that’s been done to date by the team.”
CIWM has also announced the reappointment of Liz Parkes to its Board of Trustees following an initial three-year term. Liz leads the Environment Agency’s thinking on climate change, working closely with a range of government departments. She combines extensive regulatory experience with the ability to think creatively about the future and how to engage others in that journey.
Liz Parkes said: “I’m delighted to be asked to serve a second term as a Trustee of CIWM. As the leading professional body on waste and resources we also want to play our full part in tackling the climate emergency, showing the contribution that the sector can make to getting on a path to net zero.”
Dan Cooke, CIWM Trustee Board Chair, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Duncan Simpson and the reappointment of Liz Parkes to the CIWM Board of Trustees. Both Duncan and Liz bring with them a wealth of experience and their diverse knowledge, skills and expertise will be invaluable, both to the Board and to our organisation and sector as a whole.”
CIWM's Trustees are selected by skill set and are at the apex of CIWM's governance structure. The purpose of the Trustee Board is to ensure CIWM pursues its core purpose to move the world beyond waste. You can find out more about our Board of Trustees here.
Both Duncan and Liz will serve a three-year term beginning on 29 June 2021.
