Dan Cooke, Group Head of Sustainability, Pennon Group, has been announced as incoming Junior Vice President.
An experienced environmental and communications professional, Dan’s current responsibilities with Pennon Group include strategy and programmes of sustainability across the resources, waste and water operating businesses.
Recent responsibilities at Viridor include regulatory affairs and strategic policy response, and previously; political, media and community relations, corporate and development communications, and the marketing of the company’s services and capabilities.
Dan was also recently voted in as Chair of CIWM’s Trustees Board and of CIWM Communications Committee.
He is also a trustee of Viridor Credits Environmental Company Ltd and of the Carymoor Environmental Trust.
Dan will become Junior Vice President officially in November during current Vice President Adam Read’s official Presidential Inauguration at Chelsea Football Club.
Prior to joining Viridor, Dan worked within the environmental charity and local authority sectors.
Commenting, Dan said: “I’m pleased to have been chosen to serve the CIWM as its next Junior Vice-President and, in due course, its President. It’s a great time to be involved with CIWM.
“Never before has there been a stronger focus on the major contribution of our members and our sector to a low-carbon future and to a circular economy.
“The Institution has been through major transformation over the last couple of years and is now well-positioned to better serve and grow its membership, and I’m proud to be part of that.
“Hopefully the proposed theme for my term – ‘What Good Looks Like’ in our sector – will help to encourage even more recycling and waste management professionals to add to the positive influence, and to the breadth and depth of expertise of the CIWM.”
