CIWM is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Oatridge as Chair of the CIWM Audit Committee.
The Audit Committee is established to support the Board of Trustees in their responsibilities for the CIWM Group by advising on the governance of the financial management of the Institution and by providing an independent review of the nature and scope of the audit of the Institution’s finances carried out by the External Auditor.
Mr Oatridge is an experienced director in the public, private and third sectors with knowledge of local government, the water industry and health, utility regulation and charity governance.
He has held a number of non-executive directorships in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, including, until recently, being Chair of the Board of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and currently is a Board member and Audit Chair at the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
Jim is also a governor at Wolverhampton University where he Chairs the University’s Audit and Risk Committee.
A director at Severn Trent plc until 2005, he was awarded an OBE in 2003 for services to the UK and global water industries.
As Chair of the Committee, Mr Oatridge will play a key role in CIWM’s corporate governance model by supporting the Board of Trustees.
This role is independent of the Trustee Board and also independent of the Boards of the subsidiary companies. The Chair is not a Trustee of CIWM, and remains impartial.
Mr Oatridge will use his experience and knowledge to provide an external perspective on the strategic direction of CIWM’s work and contribute to the scrutiny and constructive challenge of CIWM’s performance, whilst maintaining independence of thought.
CIWM’s CEO Sarah Poulter said: “On behalf of CIWM and the Board of Trustees, I would like to welcome Jim to the role of Audit Committee Chair. We are delighted to have Jim on board and are excited about the wealth of experience he brings. We look forward to working with him during his term of office.”
