As part of our efforts to support the resources and waste sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, all CIWM webinars are currently open to both members and non-members.

Open Webinars

Open webinars are available to both members and non-members and places are available on a first come, first served basis. To register for one of the open webinars below, simply click on the registration link in the description. 

Following the success of CIWM’s Resource Conference Cymru webinar, held in September, CIWM will be holding a further three webinars in collaboration with the Welsh Government between now and the end of the year.

The first event, to be held during Wales Climate Week on Tuesday 3 November, will look at the relationship between climate change and the circular economy in Wales and will consider how more efficient resource use, and a more resilient circular economy, can help support the country’s net zero carbon aims and reduce emissions.

Our panellists will discuss what needs to happen within Wales to reach net zero and how resource efficiency and a circular economy approach can help make this happen.

We will hear how the Welsh Government is tackling this issue, and our panellists will share their thoughts on the potential barriers, as well as how looking to other countries, such as Scotland, might help in Wales’ approach to resource efficiency in the face of the climate emergency.

As a nation, the UK continues to waste a shocking amount of good, edible food. For many people, food wastage is immoral and just plain wrong, but in addition there are also significant cost and carbon related impacts.

Which sector/who is responsible for this wastage and why? What can be done?

Despite some recent good progress and collaborative working such as the UK’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap in preventing waste and tacking the surplus (especially distribution to charities) much more needs to be done in order to meet global Sustainable Development Goals.

Our expert panel of speakers will discuss:

  • Case Studies featuring:
    • Successful food waste prevention and redistribution schemes operating in the SW; and
    • Major SW food companies/retailers that are helping to tackle the problem.

This joint North West LARAC/CIWM webinar will cover the future of waste policy in the UK. As we gear up for the next round of consultations on consistent collections, DRS and EPR, hear from DEFRA, WRAP and industry about how waste policy is changing and the impacts this could have on you and your organisation. The Scottish Resource Conference, delivered by CIWM, Zero Waste Scotland and SEPA, is a prominent annual event that shines a spotlight on resources and waste management in Scotland, looking at emerging issues within sector and how to facilitate Scotland’s transition to a circular economy.  

The theme of this year’s virtual event will be ‘Building Sector Resilience: what 2020 taught us and what happens now’. It will take place as a 90-minute webinar session and will also include an interactive Q&A session with the panellists and an after-event ‘Network roulette’.

The session will look at how COVID-19 has impacted Scotland and its journey toward a circular economy, and what needs to happen to build back better, greener and more resilient than before.

Our panellists will represent government planning, green finance, behaviour change, local authorities and the private sector and will represent an accurate ‘health check’ of the resources sector in Scotland, as well as being able to look forward to Scotland’s green recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for a CIWM webinar?

Follow the link by clicking on the name of the webinar you are interested in - you will be prompted to enter your name and email address. 

How do I know if I am registered?

You will be sent an automated email with the details you need to access the webinar on the assigned date and time.

I can't attend the webinar but would like to receive the recording and slides after the webinar, how do I do this?

Register for the webinar in the normal way - you will then be sent a 'Sorry you were unable to attend' email which will contain a link to the recording

Can I send my registration confirmation email to a friend or colleague for them to attend the webinar?

No this is personal to you. They will need to register separately.

What's the best way to listen to a webinar?

A headset plugged into your computer is the best way as the sound is much clearer and won't cost you anything (data charges may apply if joining via a mobile device - check with your internet provider) but you can join by telephone using the dial in and PIN number provided in your registration confirmation email.

How can I find out about upcoming webinars?

Check back on the Member Webinar page on the CIWM website as new webinars will be added here as they are confirmed. Or keep your eye on the weekly News Online and Journal Online emails as they will also be advertised on there. If you are a member of LinkedIn or Twitter be sure to follow CIWM as they will be posted on there too.

Are there webinars available for non-members?

Yes these will be advertised on the CIWM website and social media (LinkedIn and Twitter). The webinars advertised on the Members Webinars page are for members only.
