Technical Membership

If you’ve developed significant technical skills working in an operational capacity, Technical membership is perfect for you!

This grade of membership gives you the opportunity to showcase your skills and show your commitment to continuing professional development. It also recognises the newly emerging skills that our sector needs to thrive as we transition to meet government net zero and zero waste targets.

From Technical membership, you can progress to become a Chartered Resources and Waste Manager as you continue to build your knowledge and experience.



Technical Membership

Criteria

To join as a Technical member, you need to have a level 4 or degree-level qualification, or 2 years' experience and an apprentice-level qualification. 

Fee

£166 per year

Spread the cost of your membership when you pay by Direct Debit:

  • £41.50 (quarterly Direct Debit)
  • £13.84 (monthly Direct Debit)

Experience

Qualification Level Required

None
Options include:
  • Completion of the CIWM Operational Manager Programme
  • A CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 or higher technical qualification
  • A Level 4 or higher technical qualification in field of expertise, recognised by CIWM
  • A CIWM accredited degree, or non-accredited degree-level qualification in your field of expertise
2 years
Options include:
  • Completion of a Waste and Resource Operative apprenticeship
  • An aligned Technical Apprenticeship
  • A relevant non-degree level qualification



The Application Process

To apply for Technical membership, you need to complete an online application form and submit the following:


An up-to-date CV

Your CV should outline your full employment history in chronological order and will be used to check that you meet the entry criteria. Make sure you include information about each position, including the level and scope of work involved, and the level of responsibility, such as supervising staff and controlling finances.

Your qualification, certificate or learner ID

If your qualification was obtained via CIWM, you’ll need to upload a copy of your qualification, certificate or learner ID when completing the relevant section of the application form.
