‘Keeping Manchester Tidy’ a case study – Keep Britain Tidy and Greggs
Over the past 14 months, Keep Britain Tidy have been working with Manchester City Council to help Manchester achieve their goal to become the UK’s first ‘Tidy City’ by 2020. Together we have worked on a number of initiatives to help improve the LEQ of the city centre and resident’s perception of the area. Keep Britain Tidy will share the steps Manchester have taken on this journey, including learnings and the progress made so far.’ We’ll also be joined by Paul Rhodes from Greggs who will talk about their support of the Great British Spring Clean.
Technological solutions for reducing emissions - Egbert Taylor and Bristol City Council
Introducing a technological solution is often seen as a risk and too big a disruptor to current operations for many customers to take on. This can often be due to a lack of clarity regarding changes to take place, requirement of the system introduction, benefits when implemented and stakeholder ownership of the project. Bristol City have started to rollout 110 Solar Compactors across the city centre as well as introducing electric milk floats to help reduce emissions in the city.
Egbert Taylor and Bristol City Council will be discussing these projects covering;
- Council requirements
- Accessing capital
- Project planning
- Contract management
The Hidden Value of Community Volunteers – Helping Hand Environmental
Every week, tens of thousands of volunteers are out fighting the blight of litter on our streets, parks, beaches and waterways. Across the UK there are an army Litter Heroes to help preserve local neighbourhoods.
Not only does Litter make where we live look ugly, litter is a threat to wildlife, our public safety and health. Pitching in and cleaning up some litter is an easy way for anyone to help out at any age. And it makes sound financial sense too – as most importantly an extension to any local council’s litter collection service.
This session will explore volunteer programmes across the UK and what value this brings to each local authority service.
Why cleaning up our streets matters - FCC Environment
As the waste and resources strategy pushes us towards a DRS system for ‘on the go’ lifestyles, Kristian Dales, Regional Director of FCC Environment will present new research on citizen attitudes to the litter on our streets and we will hear from local authorities on their efforts to keep our streets clean.
This niche event, specifically tailored for like-minded resource and waste management professionals, is the perfect opportunity for sector leading exhibitors to network with an audience of key decision makers involved in the world of street cleansing.
The day is free to attend for individual delegates and is relevant to both local authorities and the private sector. ‘Cleaner Communities’ is significant to a wide range of professionals across the resource and wastes sector and provides exhibitors with an opportunity to network with a relevant and engaged audience.
