The 23rd Annual Irish Waste Management Conference takes place on Thursday March 6th in the Aviva Stadium Conference Centre, hosted jointly by CIWM Republic of Ireland Centre & the Irish Waste Management Association. 

The theme for the conference is Breaking down the Barriers to the Circular Economy - and we are in the process of formulating an exciting programme! We're excited to announce our International Keynote Speaker for this year will be Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea, who is the Director in charge of Circular Economy in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment since May 2022. He worked as a Director in charge of enforcement, cohesion and the European Semester in DG Environment between 2014 and 2022. Before that, Aurel worked as a director for Equality in the Directorate-General for Justice since 2011, and Director for Fundamental Rights and EU Citizenship within the DG Justice, Freedom and Security between 2009 - 2011. He holds an LL.M. from the University of Illinois (US) and a Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest (RO), and joined the European Commission in 2009.

Aurel will be updating our delegates on all that is happening on the European Commission level regarding waste and resource management and the Circular Economy.
