Adaptation Guidance Workshop: Preparing for change with the Climate Change Committee
This workshop will present cutting-edge research on future extreme
weather events that are likely to impact the waste sector. Your inputs during
the workshop will help shape the analysis of the sector that the Climate Change
Committee (CCC) undertakes as part of the Fourth Climate Change Risk
Assessment’s Independent Assessment (CCRA4-IA).

Speakers:
Hayley Fowler is a member of the Adaptation Committee and
Professor of Climate Change Impacts at Newcastle University and Director of the
Centre for Climate and Environmental Resilience. Her research focuses on
improved physical understanding of changing precipitation extremes, floods and
droughts, and providing better projections and guidance for climate adaptation
of infrastructure systems.
Rachael Steller is the Resilient Infrastructure Lead at the
Climate Change Committee (CCC). She leads the team’s analysis of the energy,
ICT, water, transport, and waste sectors for Adaptation Progress Reports and
the Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment.
Rachel Carr-Whitworth is an analyst at the CCC whose work focuses
on industrial decarbonisation and delivering net zero in the waste sector,
along with waste sector adaptation to climate change. At the CCC, she has led a
range of analysis for 7th Carbon Budget, the CCC’s citizens’ panel and Progress
reports. Prior to this, Rachel worked at the University of Leeds modelling the
emissions reduction potential of resource efficiency strategies.
