CIWM celebrates a key milestone today as Sarah Poulter, Chief Executive Officer, won the ‘CEO of the Year’ award at the Memcom Excellence Awards ceremony last night.
This prestigious award recognises exceptional strategic leadership within the professional membership sector, hosted by Memcom, the professional community for senior leaders in the professional bodies, trade associations, and wider membership sector.
Sarah's win celebrates her 25-year contribution to CIWM, including six years leading the Institution as CEO. This recognises Sarah’s instrumental role in establishing the organisation as the definitive voice for the resources and waste sector, driving its core purpose of "moving the world beyond waste."
Under Sarah's leadership, CIWM has seen strategic growth and operational excellence, significantly boosting the organisation’s influence and global reach. The award demonstrates Sarah’s ability to lead the organisation through complex times, building a strong team culture, championing inclusion, spearheading digital innovation, and developing key talent across the sector. One of her most recent achievements, spearheading the acquisition of the Circular Economy Institute and Clubs, was also recognised as a key driving force for leading the transition toward a circular economy.
Accepting the award, Sarah extended the honour to the entire CIWM Group team, stakeholders, members, learners, partners and global network.
"This award reflects the hard work of all our staff, who have been instrumental in our success! A huge thanks to our membership community and key stakeholders, who work tirelessly each day to make a tangible difference to the environment, communities and economies in the UK and beyond" said Sarah. "Our sector faces key challenges in achieving Net Zero, fuelling growth and driving resource resilience. This recognition reinforces our determination to ensure our members are positioned to lead that essential transition to a sustainable future. We will continue to champion the much-needed development in our sector to drive the circular economy to move the world beyond waste."
