Site Tour of the Veolia Recycling and
Energy Recovery Facility,
Newmarket Approach,
Leeds LS9 0RJ
Friday 3rd
November, 09:30 – 14:00
In
the morning we will host a number of speakers (more details to follow) on topics relevant to the RERF,
followed by site tours after lunch.
Leeds
is the second largest local authority in the UK and collects 306,000 tonnes of
waste, per year, from homes and recycling sites across the city. As part of a
vision to reduce waste and increase both recycling and the value recovered from
waste the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) at Cross Green, Leeds
was created. The
RERF uses state of the art technology and engineering to recover recyclables
and energy from the authority’s black bin waste. It’s construction features
include an iconic timber framed building hosting the largest living wall in the
UK.
Safety shoes MUST be worn
on site tours. These, along with other required PPE can be provided on the day
if size information is provided when booking.
There is limited parking
at the site. Visitors should use the Temple Green Park & Ride Scheme http://www.wymetro.com/parkandride/temple-green/ on
Pontefract Lane (A61). close to J45 of the A1/M1 link road. They can
either walk (less than a mile) or catch the bus (every 10 minutes) to the RERF.
There is a bus stop directly opposite the RERF, which is a very distinctive
horse-shoe shaped building with lots of glass, and a massive green wall.
