“Waste crime at all levels is a £1 billion drag on the UK economy. It causes harm to communities and environments, undermines the professional sector, and restricts local growth.”
After a number of years’ development, and industry consultation last year, the government announced in February that the digital waste tracking service is set to become a mandatory requirement from October 2026.
We are all aware of the need to tackle waste crime, but will digital waste tracking make a real difference and if so in which specific regulatory areas? How is the legal profession already tackling waste crime head on, and will this help or hinder their efforts? And will communities and businesses see the benefits in their local areas?
Speakers include Dr David Greenfield (CIWM President, SOENECS), Dr Anna Willetts (Gunnercooke), Sophie Walker (Dsposal) and Defra.
