A Special Interest Group is the principle route for CIWM members to input into the technical thinking and policy of the CIWM.
The SIG Steering Committee - comprises active and committed members who meet approximately three to four times a year to co-ordinate technical discussions; formulate responses to relevant consultations; develop seminar and workshop programmes; liaise with relevant organisations such as government/non-government/regulators; suggest areas that require more detailed examination and contribute to the CIWM journal. The steering committee is the core body that facilitates information to flow to the wider SIG, all CIWM membership and industry as a whole.
The wider SIG - is a wide group of members (also open to suitable non-members where they have appropriate technical expertise) who give and receive information on specific subject areas, technical issues and have the opportunity to feed into CIWM's thinking. These members tend to be corresponding rather than regular meeting attendees.
A member of the CIWM's Technical Team manages each SIG to lead and facilitate the work of the chair and the steering committee; and to disseminate this information to the wider SIG membership.
Membership of a SIG gives individuals the chance to network with leading figures within each specific sector, hearing about latest developments; discussing ideas, opinions, problems and solutions; sharing best practice and guidance; with other professionals. Individuals have the opportunity to shape CIWM policy and opinion, assist in producing consultation responses and ultimately help CIWM formulate views taken forward for discussion/consultation with governmental and regulatory bodies.
Firstly members should have a professional interest in the subject in question (but not necessarily be an expert). Those on the wider SIG will receive feedback from the activities of the steering committee and developments within the sector. Views of those on the SIG are always welcome in terms of the work of the steering committee, suggesting and formulating events and making offers to present. Those on the steering committee would be expected to attend regular meetings and provide input into the work of the committee and CIWM. For further information click on the drop down menu on the left.
