Pop up blockers
One of the most common problems that prevent e-learning modules from launching is that pop-up blockers prevent the window from opening.
If you aren’t able to access the course please firstly follow the instructions set out below.
Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click Tools.
- Click Privacy tab.
- Locate the Pop-Up Blocker box, towards the bottom of the window.
- Check the Block Pop-Up box to totally disable pop-up blocking.
- Click OK.
In later versions of Internet Explorer, Tools have been replaced with either three dots (...) in Microsoft Edge or a small "cog" icon to access the settings.
Microsoft Edge
- Click on the three dots in the top right of the address bar.
- Click on "settings"
- Click on "view advanced settings"
- Click the "block Pop-ups" slider so that it reads off.
Firefox
- Click on the Firefox menu from the top menu bar.
- Select Preferences.
- Click on the Content tab.
- If the Block pop-up windows box is checked, click on it to turn off pop-up blocking.
- Close the Preferences window.
Google Chrome
- Click the Chrome menu
on the browser toolbar.
- Select Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings.
- in the Privacy section, click the Content settings button.
- In the Pop-ups section, select Allow all sites to show pop-ups. Customize permissions for specific websites by clicking Manage exceptions.
Safari

- Ensure the Block pop-up windows box is not checked
Other browsers
If you are using a different browser to the four that have been shown; then you should find similar functionality within the browser to disable any pop-up blockers; most browsers will have this function.
Try looking for Settings or Preferences menus that should have the functionality listed; sometimes under Privacy settings.
Module will not display within pop-up window
Modules display within your computers browser using flash-based content. If you find that no content is being displayed and you have a "blank screen", you may need to update your browsers Flash plug-in as version 10 or later is required. Please see this link for further information on updating Flash.
There is also known bug when using Internet Explorer 11 preventing content from being displayed initially in the pop-up window.
The pop-up window will launch, but you have to manually "expand" the window to full-size using the "_" (top-right) for the module to load and display.
