2019 - A year of success for CIWM

2019 has been a transformative year for CIWM and, with the help of our members and volunteers, we have achieved a great deal in the past 11 months.

Here are some of the highlights from 2019:

  • Circular magazine launched in February with an exclusive interview with Michael Gove
  • Over 130 delegates joined us at the Resource Conference Cymru in March
  • 78% of the carpets tiles in our new office were reused or recycled when we moved in May
  • We saved 7.6 tonnes of C02e GHG emissions by using remanufactured furniture during our office move in May
  • We diverted 2.6 tonnes of furniture from landfill by furnishing our new office with remanufactured furniture in May. Read the full story here
  • Circular Online and the Circular Online newsletter launched in June, giving our members and subscribers access the very latest waste and resources news, hot off the press!
  • The CIWM Knowledge Centre, a fully searchable digital library of resources, launched in June
  • Over 200 delegates joined CIWM, the ESA, the Resource Association and Wrap at the Resourcing the Future conference in June
  • The CIWM Members’ Council, the official representative body of CIWM members, which provides a two-way communication route between members and Centres, Centres and trustees was formed in June
  • Over 500 attendees were entertained by our hosts, Eddie the Eagle and mindreader Alex Crow, at the 2019 CIWM Gala Dinner in September
  • Over 370 delegates from a range of sectors and professions joined CIWM, Zero Waste Scotland and SEPA at the Scottish Resources Conference 2019 in September
  • Circular magazine was named Best Association Magazine (circulation < 10,000) at The Association Excellence Awards 2019 on 11 October
  • CIWM announced a new board of Trustees in November. The Trustees were selected based on their skill set and are at the peak of CIWM’s Governance structure. We are delighted to be working with them to achieve our objectives
  • Trevor Nicoll, CIWM’s 104th President, was inaugurated in Cambridge in November. You can find Trevor’s Presidential Report – a new Green Careers Toolkit, here
  • 335 professionals from across the resources and waste sector participated in CIWM training courses this year
  • Over 230 attendees visited our stand at RWM 2019
  • CIWM submitted 12 consultation responses this year on a range of significant and important subjects
  • Our CIWM Centres have organised a total of 76 regional events this year, providing a packed programme of local activities for our members and fellow professionals in the sector
  • 19 people participated in a Study Tour to Hamburg which was organised by the CIWM London & Southern Counties Centre
  • We’re constantly improving our membership offering and this year we’ve made tremendous progress. 72% of our members said we’ve met or exceeded their expectations this year
