Local Authorities are facing unprecedented pressure to meet new recycling targets, comply with evolving regulation and manage rising operational costs. From Simpler Recycling and EPR, to ETS and the Materials Recovery Facility Code of Practice, the policy landscape is changing rapidly - and the financial implications for councils are significant. Understanding exactly what is in local waste streams has never been more important. Waste composition analysis (WCA) provides the data local authorities need to make smarter operational decisions, improve recycling performance and reduce costs.

Join CIWM and Alfred H Knight for a practical, one-day in-person workshop designed specifically for local authority professionals. This interactive session will provide you with the tools to understand how data-driven waste analysis can help councils optimise services, prepare for regulatory change, and unlock efficiencies across collection and treatment systems.

During the workshop, we will explore:
  - How waste composition data can transform operations - improving recycling performance while reducing avoidable costs
  - The regulatory landscape facing local authorities, including Simpler Recycling, the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Deposit Return Schemes (DRS), and the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) Code of Practice
  - The financial implications of new policy requirements and how councils can prepare and budget strategically
  - A live demonstration of waste composition analysis, showing what goes into your waste, how it's sorted, and how data is captured and translated into practical insights
  - Real-time data case studies showing how waste profiling and reporting can support operational planning, compliance and cost savings

This session is designed to give local authority decision-makers the practical knowledge and insight needed to interpret waste data, identify opportunities for service improvement, and make informed decisions in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

By the end of the workshop, participants will understand how to turn waste data into meaningful, actionable insight, enabling their organisations to optimise services, save on impending costs, and stay ahead of policy change.

Please Note
  - You will be asked to provide any dietary requirements or allergies upon booking.
  - We ask that just one representative per Local Authority attends, in order to maximise this opportunity for actionable insight across multiple local authorities.
