CIWM Calls for Accelerated Action on UK Waste Crime
CIWM has issued a response to the latest development from the UK Government in relation to the recommendations from the House of Lords' Environmental & Climate Change Committee Inquiry on waste crime.
Dan Cooke, Director of Policy, Communications and External Affairs, states: "CIWM notes the Government’s largely pragmatic response to the House of Lords’ Environment & Climate Change Committee Inquiry recommendations on serious and organised waste crime.
Waste crime continues to cause misery and anxiety to communities, hampers local economic well-being and is a significant drag on the UK economy.
The professional resources and waste sector delivers quality services to UK households and businesses day-in, day-out to protect health, the environment and enable economies to thrive, and is determined to help tackle waste crime at all levels.
There are clearly practical opportunities and actions for Government and regulators to further accelerate progress on tackling waste crime. CIWM will shortly publish further details on these opportunities and looks forward to working with UK governments and regulators to implement these. We must and will continue to shine the spotlight on this priority issue, and to hold those responsible to account."
