This is a fantastic opportunity to join a Wessex Professional Development Network (PDN) site visit to learn about how a local company are creating circular economies, working to close the loop on packaging and water waste, and find solutions to reuse, repurpose, repair and recycle materials from across their business.

The Green Hub is Lush’s internal repair, reuse, and recycling plant responsible for the important work of processing all waste streams from the manufacturing sites, as well as the packaging returned by customers in their stores. Lush aim to make internal and customer packaging as circular as possible, making sure materials are recycled back into packaging (closed loop), or cleaned and reused. The Green Hub is instrumental in making that happen. 

In the last two years, the Green Hub has received significant investments and is considered key to Lush’s vision of leaving the world Lusher than they found it. They have recently moved into a new, significantly larger building in Poole, which will house many of the teams that support Lush’s environmental functions, including the Green Hub, Spa Laundry, Product Donations, Repairs & Maintenance, Process Improvement, Woodshop and Moulds.

Last year they processed over 1400T of materials and achieved a recycling score of 89.5%! Work is continuing daily to reduce the amount of general waste they are producing and at close looping as many materials as possible.
