Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility

The London & Southern Counties New Member Network is pleased to invite you to visit the Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) on Monday 18th June.

This event will include:
• Guided tour of the Materials Recycling Facility
• Guided tour of the Mechanical Biological Treatment Plant
• Presentation from George Wells, Director of Willowbert Developments - Insights into the construction of the  Southwark IWMF

The facility, which is run by Veolia, became operational in January 2012 and is one of the most advanced in Europe. It has been designed to promote sustainable waste management and to accommodate the unique central London location. Further information about the facility can be found here. 

Please arrive at 13:15 for registration, as the tour will begin promptly at 13:30. 

Booking - This event was previously advertised as a joint NMN/LROG site visit. Unfortunately, as a limited number of places are available priority will be given to NMN members. NMN and LROG will notify you about future joint events.

Health and Safety - Appropriate clothing will need to be worn including sensible shoes. You will be provided with full personal protection equipment (PPE) as necessary. Any person arriving on site wearing open toe shoes, high heels, or shorts will not be permitted on a tour.  We are unable to offer tours to certain areas of the facility to visitors with a pacemaker owing to the eddy currents and magnets used on site. We are also unable to offer site visits to wheelchair users or those with walking aids.  Visitors will receive a full health and safety briefing. Tours have been fully risk assessed, if you would like copies of these please contact the Event Co-ordinator.

Photography - Photography is only permitted in specified areas on site. Your site host will provide details upon arrival.
