This training programme consists of 4 Modules. All tutor-led modules will take place live online.

Module 1: 6th May 2026; 09:00 – 13:00 via Zoom

• An overview of the legislation and guidance applicable to waste and resource management facilities, and specifically how this regulatory framework relates to fire prevention and mitigation.
• An introduction to the science of fire, and specifically the principles of heat, temperature, and combustion, self-heating, exothermic reactions, and contamination, including ignition and propagation of fire, relative to common waste and recycling materials.
• An overview of the common causes of fire in waste and recycling materials and specifically, the fire prevention and control measures required to minimise the risks from the common causes and mechanism of fire.

Module 2: 7th May 2026; 09:00 – 13:00 via Zoom

• How passive fire protection measures such as stack size, separation, and subdivision, reduce the risk of fire propagation and, specifically how the material type influences the control measures required.
• How active fire protection measures detect and suppress fire, introducing the common technologies and their application to waste and recycling materials, exploring how they are often complimentary
