The waste management industry is operating within a changing environment with new techniques being developed and frequent changes in legislation.

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) and the Environmental Services Association (ESA) have joined together to provide training for the industry by the industry. The courses will be provided through CIWM's commercial company, IWMBS, and aim to meet the needs of the industry.

To ensure professional and relevant training is delivered, CIWM and ESA are working together to regularly update existing courses to keep pace with change and develop new courses to meet the needs of all those involved in the wastes management industry.

CIWM and ESA are working together to deliver training courses that provide many benefits for both the organisations and the individual. These include:

• Tutors with experience of working in the waste management industry and who are experts in their particular field
  
• Material to back up courses which provides on-going reference material
  
• Time for discussion which allows delegates to learn from other participants and broaden their outlook
  
• For CIWM members all of the CIWM courses contribute towards the structured schemes for membership requirements of various grades and towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for members.
