The Waste Collection and Environmental Cleansing Special Interest Group has the following aims:-
- To promote best practice in the management of an integrated waste management service.
- To provide a platform and resource base for those with an interest in Waste Collection (including kerbside recycling) and Environmental Cleansing.
- To disseminate information on best practice and new developments within the waste collection and environmental cleansing profession.
- To promote the integrated collection of waste and recyclable materials.
- To provide guidance and input into the Scientific and Technical Committee and be directly responsible to this Committee.
- To encourage and develop the highest standards in recycling.
- To provide a forum of information exchange for those with a professional interest in kerbside recycling.
- To provide expert advice in kerbside recycling.
In order to achieve these aims the Steering Committee constituted by invitation and representative of the Special Interest Group membership will:-
- Draw membership for the Special Interest Group Committee from all the key sectors involved.
- Formulate a programme of meetings to attract maximum participation.
- Produce and disseminate news bulletins on the activities of the Special Interest Group.
- Produce articles for the Chartered Institution of Waste Management Journal.
- Prepare responses to appropriate consultation papers.
- Establish sub groups / working groups to work on matters identified by the Special Interest Group.
- Hold workshops on key topics affecting the waste collection and Environmental Special Interest Group. Workshops to be targeted at all supervisory levels across the industry.
- Liaise with Defra, ENCAMS, Regional Groups and other agencies in promoting best practice and advising on future developments for waste collection and environmental cleansing.
- Examine and develop the relationships with other bodies involved in managing the street scene.
- Support other special interest groups in the holistic approach to waste management.
- Provide advice and support in the development of the Annual Conference Programme and Education / Training Programmes.
The Workshops will provide the opportunity for education and informed debate. Members attending will benefit by learning from the experience of others in this sector of the industry, identifying areas of concerns and understanding the perspective of others.
The Special Interest Group activities will be co-ordinated through the Institute's Scientific and Technical Committee.
Membership is not on a representational basis but is open to anyone with an interest in waste collection (including kerbside recycling) and environmental cleansing services management functions. Membership of the Institution is not a pre-requisite, although we hope that this will be a natural progression for those interested in keeping up to date with management information and progressing their career.
The Steering Committee of the Special Interest Group may have regional networks and meetings which will be co-ordinated by a duly nominated representative and interface with the group's Steering Committee.
