"Beyond Recycling"
2nd November 2006
Mike Read Associates, working with Defra and Dorset County Council have announced a national conference, 'Beyond Recycling 2006' that will look beyond the obvious and help make the case for municipal waste prevention. Recent years have seen some progress in recycling municipal waste, but has this been at the expense of waste reduction and re-use? Have the higher levels of the waste management hierarchy been ignored in the rush to meet recycling targets?
This conference, funded by Defra, will bring together experts, practitioners and policy makers to develop the case for domestic and municipal waste prevention. It will explore how it can be practically and cost-effectively promoted, measured and implemented. What are the priorities for government locally and nationally? What roles can the community and private sector play?
Beyond Recycling 2006 will appeal to local authority officers and managers, community enterprises, social entrepreneurs, government agencies and private sector contractors and all those with an interest in developing genuinely sustainable resource management.
Beyond Recycling 2006 will offer a combination of updates on latest research, waste strategies, policies and plans, innovative projects and pointers to successfully making the case for waste prevention. Hosted by Dorset County Council, BR06 is being held in the beautiful and peaceful setting of Kingston Maurward conference centre in Dorchester on November 2nd 2006 and promises an organic lunch and refreshments.
