Description
Situated at Augean’s hazardous landfill facility in Port Clarence, Terramundo Ltd operates the country’s largest soil treatment centre.
The plant uses the most advanced treatment technologies including physico-chemical treatment and bioremediation. Physico-chemical soil treatment is an effective technique to clean contaminated soils, removing a wide range of both organic and inorganic contaminants. Contaminants adhere to the fine-fraction of the soil, such as organic matter and clay/silt. The principle of the method utilizes the difference in grain-size and density of the materials and separates the different fractions by means of screens, hydrocyclones and upstream classification. Pollutants in the input material are separated and transferred from the sand and gravel fractions to a filtercake residue which is then analysed and disposed of to the Augean landfill facilty. Cleaned materials are then available for secondary use. Come and see the plant in action.
