Become a WasteSmart Trainer

Trainers must be "approved" by CIWM to deliver WasteSmart, either at Foundation level only or both Foundation and Advanced. Approved trainers must also have signed the appropriate trainer terms and conditions and undertake the annual trainer re-registration process which includes a trainer quality assurance review. Trainers must also be delivering WasteSmart through a registered WasteSmart Centre and be an individual Member of CIWM (any grade).

New potential WasteSmart trainers must successfully undertake the WasteSmart trainer assessment process before they can be a registered "approved" WasteSmart trainer.

New Trainer Assessment Process

The WasteSmart trainer application process is in two parts. Stage one involves an application form which will be assessed against the current trainer criteria. This will involve providing information regarding experience (both technical and training), provision of references, and a statement about CPD as well as answering a technical question. Request a trainer application form.

Potential trainers who pass this stage will then be required to attend a 2 day 'non residential' Trainer Assessment Workshop. This is a fully interactive workshop and will involve potential trainers delivering a specified section of the course material, discussions regarding training methodologies and technical content of the course. Throughout the course "trainers" will be assessed on both training delivery and technical knowledge relevant to the course materials. The workshop will be facilitated by two WasteSmart trainer assessors.

An application fee and sign up to the trainer terms and conditions will be a requirement prior to attending the workshop.

Upon successful completion of the WasteSmart Trainer Assessment Workshop applicants will be registered as an "approved WasteSmart trainer". All approved WasteSmart trainers will be subject to ongoing quality assurance and will be required to maintain their registration through annual re- registration.
