Reset CIWM Policy & Innovation Forum to Lead and Focus Resources and Waste Sector Thinking and Enhance Member Value
This week, CIWM has announced the launch of its refreshed and reset Policy & Innovation (P&I) Forum, a dynamic think-tank designed to help shape the future of the resource and waste management sector. The new P&I Forum, consisting of leaders, specialists, and academics, will act as a hub for thought-leadership in resources, recycling and waste management, providing evidence-based insights to CIWM members and stakeholders.
This reset follows a comprehensive review, led by the CIWM Trustee Board, to develop the forum's structure and alignment with CIWM’s strategic objectives. The review was designed to ensure outputs are both relevant and influential to the sector. The new P&I Forum approach reflects CIWM's purpose to ‘move the world beyond waste’, driving collaboration and direction across the organisation’s Specialist Expert Groups (SEGs) for a greater impact and influence on sector research and policy.
Members of the P&I Forum include: Marcus Gover (Chair) former CEO at WRAP, Emma Beal of West London Waste Authority, Susan Evans from Resource Futures, Jacob Hayler of ESA, Wayne Hubbard from ReLondon, Chris Jonas of Tolvik, Lorna Pannett of Ricardo, Adam Read from Suez, Chris Sherrington of Eunomia, Claire Shrewsbury from WRAP, Sophie Thomas of Etsaw, Costas Velis of Imperial College London, Tim Walker from arc21(and CIWM’s President), Charlotte Davies of Beyondly, Dan Cooke, CIWM Director of Policy, Communications and External Affairs, and Lee Marshall, CIWM Director of Innovation and Technical Services.
"In a period of unprecedented change and opportunities, our reset P&I Forum provides a crucial role for CIWM, the wider sector and beyond," said Marcus Gover, Chair of the P&I Forum.
"From industry leaders to specialist academics, we are bringing together a wealth of expertise with a deep knowledge of innovative practices, in order to help shape progressive policy within resource and waste management, and identifying vital opportunities for us to move towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and more circular UK economy.”
The first Policy & Innovation Forum meeting took place on 12th March 2025, and highlights from the P&I Forum 3-year workplan will be shared with members and stakeholders in due course.
