As one of our professional membership grades, Associate membership is perfect for those with a good understanding of resources and waste management, either through their studies or from their experience working in the sector.

From Associate membership, you can apply to become a Chartered Resources and Waste Manager as you progress through your career.



Associate Membership

Criteria

You need a degree-level qualification or 2+ years of experience working in the resources and waste management sector to be eligible for Associate membership.

Fee

£166 per year

Spread the cost of your membership when you pay by Direct Debit:

  • £41.50 (quarterly Direct Debit)
  • £13.84 (monthly Direct Debit)

  • A CIWM accredited degree
  • A relevant non-CIWM accredited degree or degree-level qualification
  • Completion of a CIWM endorsed or accredited competence framework (e.g. EA PER Certificate)
  • Level 4 or higher technical qualification recognised or accredited by CIWM

Options include:
  • Completion of a Waste and Resource Operative apprenticeship
  • A relevant non-degree level qualification

The Application Process

To apply for Associate membership, you need to complete an online application form and submit the following:


An up-to-date CV

Your CV should outline your full employment history in chronological order and will be used to check that you meet the entry criteria. Make sure you include information about each position, including the level and scope of work involved, and the level of responsibility, such as supervising staff and controlling finances.

A competency-based supporting statement

Your personal statement should explain how you’re working towards meeting the seven competences for Chartered status. You’re not expected to meet each of the competences at this stage, but you should show how your current skills and experience compare to them.

A development log

Your development log should outline the professional activities you have planned for the next 12 months to support you in meeting the seven competences for Chartered status, with a particular focus on any areas where you currently have gaps in your skills or experience.
