CEI webinar: Breaking the ‘ick-factor’, how do circular business models become desirable?

Registrations open - click here!

18th March @ 10:30 GMT (1-hr)

Supporting the progression of resource optimising policies like Simpler Recycling and DRS is key to the progress of the sector, but how do these policies’ requirements impact current operating infrastructures? What are the challenges, and how can we anticipate what's coming next to allow for infrastructure that can operate and support effective, high-capacity material sorting and recovery?

This discussion will encourage conversation around current infrastructure requirements and feedback on this, collection requirements and handling challenges, end market opportunities , behaviour change requirements and more!

Needing to progress economies, manufacturing, and daily living into more circular ways of consuming is essential if we are going to try to limit further destruction to depleting resources, nature, and the rising global temperatures. To shift to these models will require a change in consumer behaviour, but something that seems to be a sticking point in trying to get wider uptake of circular models is the ‘ick factor’ – with the public associating reused and refurbished goods and materials with lower hygiene standards (48%), and questioning their quality (56%), safety (51%) and reliability (49%).

In this session, we will delve into perceptions and behaviours from different countries linked with circular-focused models and second-hand markets.
