About this Training

This course delivers an understanding of all the intertwined components involved in achieving sustainable development from a waste and resource managers perspective. There is no doubt that the concept of sustainable development is more important today than ever, and that living within our environmental limits to stop climate change is a fundamental part of that development. This course introduces the concept and history of sustainable development and links policy with the practical delivery of waste management services. The course also looks at how waste management can help deliver net zero targets. Net zero and sustainable development are closely intertwined, as achieving net zero emissions is a critical component of sustainable development. The course also covers an introduction to the circular economy, a concept identified as a necessary step to achieve sustainable development as both aim to create a more resilient, equitable, and environmentally friendly world. Participants will learn how waste management can play a role in delivering a circular economy. In addition, the course outlines how waste managers can use sustainable procurement to ensure that the goods and services acquired by organizations are sourced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, which in turn supports broader sustainable development goals This virtual course has been designed to help those managing and delivering waste services to develop ideas and actions that consider the wider impact of their operations.
