Introduction to PAS110 and End of Waste Criteria

Learn how to ensure the digestate output from anaerobic digestion and biogas production is safe to be used as a bio fertiliser.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify the key features of PAS110, the AD quality protocol (ADQP) and SEPA positioning statement
  • Understand how the certification scheme works
  • Implement a quality management system and the requirements of hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP)
  • Keep the required records for compliance with all of the above

Fee:

Members: £280 plus VAT
Non-members: £350 plus VAT

Fee includes lunch and all course materials.

CPD: 6 hours

Is this course right for me?

This course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the criteria for quality digestate output and the conditions under which it can be utilised as a product and not a waste material.

It is relevant for:

  • Operators of an anaerobic digestion plant
  • Anaerobic digester manufacturers and equipment suppliers
  • Farmers and agricultural companies using digestate bio fertiliser
  • Food waste producers supplying an anaerobic digestion plant
  • Regulators responsible for PAS 110 compliance

PAS110 and end of waste criteria are the BSI industry specifications by which those involved in anaerobic digestion and biogas production can ensure the digestate output from their AD processing plant is safe to be used as a bio fertiliser. BSI PAS110 accredited AD plants classify biowaste as a product rather than waste and supply it to farms as organic compost.

EU end of waste criteria are a wider group of specifications that are used to identify when a variety of waste ceases to be waste and becomes a product, such as, in the case of anaerobic digestion, a digestate bio fertiliser. These align to PAS 110 in the UK and are designed to provide a high level of environmental protection and environmental and economic benefit.
