CIWM South West Centre Meeting - Climate Change Emergency

CIWM South West Centre Meeting - Climate Change Emergency

Climate Change Emergency – business as unusual?
How is the resources and waste management sector responding?

Date:   Friday 28th February 2020

Hear from experts sharing their experience, views and latest updates on a range of topics focusing on the climate change challenge and the many ways that the resources and waste industry can contribute to a low carbon economy and rapid decarbonisation. This includes the opportunities, challenges and misunderstandings around what the emergency really is and the latest on the emerging Local Authority Climate Emergency Action Plans.

We will consider both sides of the climate change challenge: being better prepared for the impacts of the changing climate, such as the increasing frequency of severe weather events impacting on waste infrastructure and services; and how the sector needs to play its full part in delivering a Circular Economy and achieving net-zero.

The session will provide opportunity for an open discussion with our expert panel of speakers; a chance for you to pose your pressing questions and consider potential solutions; and explore our role as individuals, communities and the industry in working together to tackle the most important issue of our lifetimes and those of future generations.

And to ‘practice what we preach’ we will be off-setting the carbon generated in travel to the seminar by planting trees. We’re grateful to our sponsor Resource Futures for contributing £100 which will be donated to the Woodland Trust https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/ to help capture and store around 4 tonnes of carbon.

Venue:   Womble Bond Dickinson Offices, Plymouth, PL1 3AE

Directions:

In order to minimise our carbon footprint delegates are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible. Plymouth Railway station is a 5-minute taxi ride or 25-minute walk away.

If you do come by car, please car share wherever possible.

Please note that there is no car parking for delegates at Ballard House; however, there is plenty of public car parking at the nearby Pavilions Car Park, a 3-minute walk away: https://www.plymouth.gov.uk/parkingandtravel/findsomewherepark/pavilionscarpark

Reception:
On entering Ballard House please follow the CIWM SW signs and take the lift to the 6th Floor and the Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP Reception (there is no need to sign in at the main ground floor reception).  You'll be directed to the Seminar Room where you’ll find the CIWM SW reception.

Join us at this critical time to consider the climate change emergency and what this really means for the industry and what we can do about it. With science telling us that the climate is changing faster than predicted this is a timely opportunity to join the debate and help make a real difference.
