CONSULTATION: RECYCLE ON THE GO
Defra has launched a public consultation on recycling in public places - Recycle on the Go. The consultation builds on recent enthusiasm to recycle in the home and the Government would like to see an extension to public places. The proposals aim to stimulate good practice in the provision of public-use recycle bins. See Link:

BERR GOVERNMENT GUIDANCE NOTES ON WEEE
These Guidance Notes cover the obligations which the WEEE Regulations place on producers who put electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) onto the UK market and obligations on distributors of EEE in the UK. WASTE, RECYCLING AND PARKS EARN MALDON TWO STARS

LONDON LOCAL AUTHORITY ACT 2007
The London Local Authorities Act 2007 (LLAA 07) received the Royal Assent on 19 July and comes into effect on 19 September. However, note that in many cases London Councils must issue Codes of Practice before some sections actually are enforceable. LONDON PROPOSES 10P PLASTIC BAG LEVY TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
London Councils has called on Government to help London take a bold stand for the environment, by introducing a 10p levy on plastic bags – or even introducing an outright ban.

GREEN ENERGY EXCELLENCE TO BE REWARDED
The Scottish Government's first Saltire Prize for innovation in industry will reward the best efforts to develop cutting edge renewable energy technology. The Saltire Prize will be an annual award that provides funding to projects that demonstrate the best of innovation in different areas of industry and business. QUALITY ASSURANCE DOCUMENT SETS STANDARDS FOR RECOVERED PAPER
A new code of practice that gives guidance on the key criteria required for the quality of recovered paper destined for UK end markets has been introduced today by WRAP, and the British Standards Institute (BSI). See Link:

2007 SURVEY OF PUBLIC ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOURS TOWARD THE ENVIRONMENT
Headline results from the 2007 Survey of Public Attitudes and Behaviours toward the environment are released today.  They give a representative picture of what people in England think, and how they behave, across a range of issues relevant to the environment, including transport and waste recycling.
