Health and Safety Best Practice

The number of fatal accidents in the waste and resource management industry is 10 times the national average and as the number of people employed in the industry grows, and treatment and collection options increase, it is vitally important that the number of accidents does not rise. A great deal of work is being done in the industry at the moment to promote health and safety best practice and this award is an ideal way of showing an organisation’s commitment to improving its health and safety performance in the waste and resource management sector.

This award will recognise the results achieved through best practice in health and safety. Initiatives, training, technical improvement, behaviour change and communications that demonstrate its contribution to an improvement in health and safety (possibly through an exemplary accident record) will all be considered. Entries can include products designed to improve health and safety practices to projects that operate with exemplary health and safety records.

The application should:
• describe the initiative
• detail how it has been implemented
• provide evidence of results
• explain how it will be used in the future (including any plans for alteration or expansion).

Accompanying the application form should be a written submission 1,000 words in length detailing the initiative and quantifying the results obtained. Supporting information will be accepted.
