WEEE Protocols
The EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires producers to ensure separately collected WEEE is treated appropriately and recycled to target levels. It is generally agreed that recording and reporting procedures will be greatly simplified by the adoption of nationally agreed protocols.
CIWM (EB) was contracted by Defra to project manage research work to deliver the appropriate protocols, engaging with the Environment Agency and waste industry to ensure that the final protocols are acceptable to all parties. Physical trials and product/material analyses were undertaken by Mayer Environmental sourcing mixed WEEE loads from a number of CA sites around England.
